One chilly evening during the fall of 2015, I called my mother.

"Seriously, Mom. I hate it here. I hate it! I'm going to transfer out of the music school. I need to pick a different major because this one isn't working."

After talking to a few professors, I learned that quitting would not be easy.

"Wait--so you're telling me it could take another four years to get the LSA degree? But I'm already a sophomore!"

So, I concocted a plan. I would continue studying music, but I would add other areas of study.

"Oh my god! I got into business school! Oh my god! I have a chance of getting an actual job--like, a job with a suit and a salary and dental!'

What resulted from a couple of slap-dash decisions to apply to other schools, I felt was incredible. For the first time in as long as I could remember, I felt like a had a stake in my own education, my own career

I wanted to quit. But I'm so glad I didn't.
